Narrating Muar

Date: 26 June - 24 July 2011
Venue: NUS Museum
This exhibition marks the efforts of 31 students from the University of Malaya (UM) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) in studying, recording and analyzing the material gained through a two-week long documentation of the built environment of Muar Town.

Comprising sketches, drawings, models and found objects, the exhibition arises from the UM-NUS Joint Studio Programme started in 2005 in conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the two universities. Since its inception, the Programme has been funded by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.

Into its sixth cycle, the programme has enabled students to conduct urban studies and measured drawings of shophouses and townhouses in historic towns and cities of Malaysia such as Malacca (2005), Penang (2006), Kuching (2008), Kuala Terengganu (2009) and Taiping (2010).
